The St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angles Dodgers face off on Wednesday in St. Louis after splitting the first two games of the series.
The St. Louis Cardinals took advantage of their opportunities on Tuesday to bounce back to beat the Dodgers. Carlos Beltran had two hits including a home run, Matt Adams hit a home run, and Allen Craig and Matt Holliday had hits and the Cardinals scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Joe Kelly allowed six hits and a run over 5.1 innings to get the win to raise his record to 3-3 while Trevor Rosenthal earned his 25th save. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Miller has allowed 1-2 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 132 over 121.1 innings for an 11-7 record and a 2.89 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave back a game in the standings for the first time in a while as they lost while the Diamondbacks were winning. Carl Crawford and Nick Punto had two hits each and Adrian Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig, and Andre Ethier each had hits as the Cardinals scored one run on nine hits. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to fall to 10-7 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Dodgers start Ricky Nolasco who has won two of his three decisions since joining the Dodgers. Since becoming a Dodger Nolasco has allowed 26 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 22 over 28 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.54 ERA.
St. Louis is 4-9 in their last 13 games, 65-31 in their last 96 home games, and 7-1 in Miller’s last eight home starts. Los Angeles is 14-2 in their last 16 games as an underdog, 13-4 in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record, and 4-1 in Nolasco’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 17-37 in the last 53 games in St. Louis.
