The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers face off on Thursday as they close out their four game series in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Indians can’t seem to figure out a formula to beat the Detroit Tigers as they fell to them once again on Wednesday. Yan Gomes hit a home run, Nick Swisher and Michael Brantley had three hits each, and Jason Kipnis and Mike Aviles had two hits each as the Indians scored five runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Danny Salazar allowed seven hits and four earned runs, while striking out 10 over 7.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Bryan Shaw took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season. For Thursday’s game, the Indians start Zach McAllister who has lost his last three decisions. For the season, McAllister has allowed 84 hits and 32 earned runs, while striking out 59 over 83 innings for a 4-6 record and a 3.47 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers haven’t been perfect, but when it comes to playing the Indians they just seem to have their number. On Wednesday, Brayan Pena had three hits, Austin Jackson had two hits, including a homerun, Miguel Cabrera hit a home run, and Price Fielder and Victor Martinez had two hits each as the Tigers scored six runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed seven hits and two runs, while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Jeremy Bonderman got the win to go to 1-3 on the season and Joaquin Benoit earned his 13th save. For Thursday’s game, the Tigers start Max Scherzer, the leading candidate for the Cy Young Award in the American League. For the season Scherzer has allowed 104 hits and 48 earned runs, while striking out 170 over 151.1 innings for a 16-1 record and a 2.85 ERA.
Cleveland is 10-4 in their last 14 games, 35-17 in their last 52 home games, and 7-3 in McAllister’s last 10 starts. Detroit is 7-1 in their last eight road games, 24-7 in their last 31 games overall, and 38-13 over Scherzer’s last 51 starts. Detroit is 8-1 in their last nine games in Cleveland.
The total is set at 7.5 and that looks to be just too low so my free pick is on the over. My stronger play is on the winning sdie and I will give out that winning pick in the Premium Area.
