The Kansas City Royals and the Boston Red Sox face off on Friday in Kansas City for game two of their series.
The Kansas City Royals have been red hot of late and they kept it going as they knocked off the Red Sox on Thursday. Billy Butler and Justin Maxwell each had hits and Mike Moustakas had two hits, as the Royals scored five runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Bruce Chen allowed five hits and struck out two over 7.2 innings to get the win and go to 5-0 on the year and Luke Hochevar earned his second save. For Friday’s game, the Royals start Ervin Santana who is having the best season of his career. For the year, Santana has allowed 128 hits and 50 earned runs, while striking out 120 over 151.1 innings for a 8-6 record for a 2.97 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox continue to lead the AL East, but their lead shrank by a half of a game on Thursday as they lost to the Royals. Jacoby Ellsbury and Stephen Drew each had two hits and Jonny Gomes had a hit as the Red Sox scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed four hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out four over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 10-6 on the season. For Friday’s game, the Red Sox start Jake Peavy, who won his first start after being traded to the Red Sox. In his first start for Boston, Peavy allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win.
Kansas City is 5-0 in their last five games as an underdog, 14-3 in their last 17 games overall, and 4-0 in Santana’s last four starts. Boston is 5-0 in game two of a series, 19-8 as a road favorite, and 17-36 in their last 53 road games against a team with a winning record.
The pitchers in this one should battle it out and my free pick is on the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area.
