The Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland A’s face off on Monday afternoon in Toronto as they close out their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays have dropped two of their first three games in their series with the Athletics and they hope to end with a split and a win on Monday. On Sunday Bret Lawrie had three hits, Jose Reyes had two hits, and Josh Thole and Emilio Benifcaio had hits as the Blue Jays scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get a no decision while Darren Oliver took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the season. For Monday’s game the Blue Jays start J.A. Happ who makes his ninth start of the year but just his second start since May 2nd. For the season Happ has allowed 39 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 28 over 37 innings for a 2-2 record and a 5.84 ERA.

The Oakland Athletics fell behind the Blue Jays early on Sunday but they hung in and got the win. Brandon Moss hit a home run and Josh Donaldson, Alberto Jose Callespo, and Stephen Vogt each had two hits as the A’s scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Griffin allowed five hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out two over 5.2 innings to get a no decision as Ryan Cook got the win to go to 4-2 on the season and Grant Balfour earned his 30th save. For Monday’s game the A’s start Daniel Strally who has lost his last four starts. For the season Strally has allowed 91 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 80 over 100 innings for a 6-6 record and a 4.41 ERA.
Toronto is 4-10 in their last 14 home games, 7-20 in their last 27 games against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 in Happ’s last six starts. Oakland is 6-2 in their last eight road games against a team with a losing record, 4-7 in their last 11 games, and 1-4 in Strally’ last five starts against a team with a losing record. Oakland is 6-2 in their last eight games in Toronto.
