The Seattle Mariners look to deal the playoff hopes of the Tampa Bay Rays a blow.

With the Mariners lone goal in the season being to reach .500 and perhaps take down a few contenders along the way, they took a step in the right direction with a 5-4 victory at Tropicana Field. The sometimes challenged offense put up some runs and the work on the mound managed to hang on. Starter Erasmo Ramirez gave up all four runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out seven over five frames. The offense pounded out 12 hits and walked twice with Brad Miller going solo twice, while Justin Smoak rapped a two run single. The Mariners are hoping Aaron Harang rights the ship when he takes the bump against Tampa Bay. Harang has been hit hard the past two times out with 14 runs plated on 12 hits and five walks over seven innings.

Just when Tampa Bay needs a hot streak, they are heading in the opposite direction with six consecutive defeats following Tuesday's loss to visiting Seattle. Left hander David Price takes the ball against the visiting Mariners Wednesday looking for his 5th straight quality start. Price comes in off a 7-6 loss to the Dodgers (ND) in which he allowed an unearned run in seven innings of work.

Tampa Bay looks rather ordinary right now and ordinary in the American League East doesn't cut it. Price is the best the Rays have and if he can't get the job done Wednesday, this team is in trouble...
