The Tampa Bay Rays look to reverse their fortunes with a win over the visiting Seattle Mariners.
Seattle won't be winning the American League West but they could have a hand in deciding which teams reach the postseason. The Mariners could have wreaked havoc on Tampa Bay's playoff aspirations with back to back victories over the Rays but a 9th inning meltdown by the bull pen led to a 5-4 loss Wednesday. Just enough hitting and just enough pitching until the final frame, with starter Aaron Harang allowing three runs over five frames, while the pen was perfect until Danny Farquhar gave up two runs on four hits to take the loss. Six hits and a free pass didn't get the job done offensively with Brad Miller smacking a two run triple. Left hander Joe Saunders looks to right the ship when he takes the hill at Tampa Bay on Thursday. Saunders has dropped three of four in which he has given up 14 runs in the defeats over 14 frames.

Tampa Bay looked as if the American League East was their's to lose a few short weeks ago when the losses were rare. However, six consecutive defeats had the Rays back in second and in a precarious position. A 9th inning rally saved Tampa Bay Wednesday and is hopefully the start of something big. Ace David Price didn't throw like one with four runs plated on five hits and a free pass over seven innings of work although he did strike out seven. The bats came through with eleven hits and six bases on balls with Wil Myers leaving the yard, while Matt Joyce and Ben Zobrist singled in a run each in the 9th to steal a much needed victory. Alex Cobb is scheduled to face Tampa Bay Thursday for his first outing since he suffered a concussion in mid June. Cobb was hit in the head by a line drive versus Kansas City in the 5th inning where had given up two runs in 4.1 frames.
I'm looking at Tampa Bay but for the life of me, are they worth it? If they can't get this one they could be in for an uphill battle...
