The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees face off on Sunday at Fenway Park as they play the rubber match of their three game series.
The Boston Red Sox looked lost against the Yankees on Friday but on Saturday they looked to be found pounding the Bronx Bombers. David Ortiz had two hits including a home run, Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, and Shane Victorino, Mike Carp, Damiel Nava, and Will Middlebrooks each had two hits as the Red Sox scored six runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed six hits and a run while striking out just one over 6.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-10 on the season. For the season Dempster has allowed 140 hits and 70 eared runs while striking out 129 over 140 innings for a 6-8 record and a 4.50 ERA.

The New York Yankees never got into any kind of groove on Saturday and they were beaten by the Red Sox. Lyle Overbay had three hits, Alfonso Soriano had two hits, and Vernon Wells had a hit as the Yankees scored just one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda allowed 11 hits and five runs while striking out six over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-8 on the season. For Sunday’s game the Yankees start C.C. Sabathia who won last time out to end a four decision losing streak. For the season Sabathia has allowed 176 hits and 86 earned runs while striking out 140 over 166 innings for 10-10 record and a 4.66 ERA.
Boston is 21-8 in their last 29 home games, 2-4 in their last six games overall, and 6-0 in Dempster’s last six starts. New York is 1-5 in their last six road games, 5-2 in their last seven games, and 1-4 in Sabathia’s last fiver road starts. New York is 10-5 in their last 15 games in Boston.
We should see plenty of scoring and my first free pick is on the over. My second free pick is on the winning side and I will give out that free pick on Sunday’s 1stQuarter Podcast.
