The Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Sunday in Philadelphia as they close out their weekend series.
The Philadelphia Phillies are headed nowhere fast and while Charlie Manuel paid the price by being fired, the problems are in other places. On Saturday Domonic Brown, Casper Wells, and John Mayberry all had hits as the Phillies were shutout on three hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick allowed seven hits and two runs, one earned but that earned him the loss as he fell to 10-10 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Phillies start Cole Hamels who has been outstanding over his last four starts. For the season Hamels has allowed 156 hits and 67 earned runs while striking out 146 over 165 innings for a 5-13 record and a 3.65 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to roll right along as they breezed past the Phillies on Saturday. Juan Uribe had three hits including a home run, Yasiel Puig had two hits, and Carl Crawford and Hanley Ramirez had hits as the Dodgers scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw allowed just three hits and struck out o=eight over 8.0 scoreless innings for a win and to raise his record to 12-7 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Dodgers start Ricky Nolasco who has just one loss since joining the Dodgers. For the season Nolasco has allowed 112 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 90 over 112.1 innings for a 5-8 record and a 3.85 ERA.
Philadelphia is 6-21 in their last 27 games overall, 2-8 in their last 10 home games, and 3-9 in Hamels’ last 12 home starts. Los Angeles is 24-3 in their last 27 road games, 42-10 in their last 52 games overall, and 5-0 in Nolasco’s ;ast five road starts. Philadelphia is 4-1 in Hamels’ last five starts against Los Angeles.
We have two pitchers who have found their game which should keep scoring down so my free pick is on the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that top pick in the Premium Area.
