The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres keep slugging in SD on Saturday. The Padres rallied past Chicago 8-6 during the series opener.
The Cubs scored all six of their runs during the first inning. Dioner Navarro's single, Nate Schierholtz's home run and Brian Bogusevic's triple accounted for all of Chicago's runs.

Edwin Jackson (7-13, 5.00 ERA) however gave up six runs, five earned, during six frames. San Diego slugged in runs via Jed Gyorko's, Will Venable's and Logan Forsythe's bats. Venable and Gyorko went deep later.
Jeff Samardzija (7-11, 4.12 ERA) was awesome in his last start beating the Washington Nationals 11-1 with a complete game. However in Samardzija's last away start the Philadelphia Phillies rolled 12-1 ripping him for nine runs during 3.1 innings. Samardzija tosses at Petco Park Saturday. Samardzija struggled at the Cubs April 29 letting in three runs to the Padres during five frames. The good news for Chicago is they won 5-3.
More good news for the Cubs is SD hasn't done well against Samardzija going 16-of-79 with six RBIs, two apiece Yonder Alonso's and Venable's. Samardzija is 4-6 on the road toppling the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals surrendering three runs during 32.2 innings.
The Padres flip the switch to Eric Stults (8-10, 3.70 ERA). At San Diego Stults is 5-2 just losing his first and last home decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds yielding eight runs, five earned, during 11.2 frames. Stults won five Petco starts with poise surrendering five runs during 38.1 innings.
The Padres toppled Chicago 4-2 May 2 despite Stults leaving with a 6.2-frame no-decision. The Cubs 15-of-51 with three RBIs versus Stults. I'm uncertain about the Cubs' psyche Saturday after collapsing Friday night.
