The Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals face off on Sunday as they close out their interleague game in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals battled early against the Nationals on Saturday but in the end they didn’t have enough to get the job done. Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas had two hits each nad Eric Hosmer added a hit as the Royals scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Wade Davis allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-10 on the season. For Sunday’s game the Royals start Ervin Santana who is statistically having his best season. For the year Sanata has allowed 149 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 130 over 167 innings for a 8-d and a 3.13 ERA.

The Washington Nationals have gotten hot and while it may be too late for them to make a run at the post season it doesn’t appear that it is going to stop them from trying. Ian Desmond hit a home run, Bryce Harper had two hits, and Ryan Zimmerman added a hit as the Nationals scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out seven over 7.2 innings to get the win and go to 15-7 on the year. For Sunday’s game the Nationals start Dan Haren who has won his last four decisions. For the season Haren has allowed 140 hits and 68 earned runs while striking out 117 over 132 innings for a 8-11 record and a 4.64 ERA.
Kansas City is 1-5 in their last six games as a favorite, 0-8 in their last eight games, and 5-2 in Santana’s last seven starts. Washington is 4-7 in their last 11 interleague road games, 2-5 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 0-5 in Haren’s last five starts as a road underdog. Washington is 7-1 in their last right games against Kansas City.
The Royals have been ice cold and while Haren runs hot and cold as well he’s hot now and I am going to take him here as a dog.
