The Atlanta Braves and St Louis Cardinals butt heads in Sunday afternoon action.
The Braves have suddenly gone from tough to beat to losers in three of four following a 6-2 defeat at St Louis on Saturday. The offense has not been scoring and the pitching has been giving up runs which is never a winning combination. We saw that Saturday with Julio Teheran giving up four runs over six frames with the relief corps giving up two more. The bats mustered a mere seven hits and did not draw a walk with Freddie Freeman slugging home run number 16 in the first to give Atlanta the lead. The Braves turn to left hander Mike Minor to control the Cardinals lineup on Sunday. Minor has suffered through a pair of poor outings in which he has allowed eight runs on ten hits and five BB in 8.2 frames.

It looks like the Cardinals are back in the groove once again after being cold a few weeks back. The Redbirds have turned things around with wins in eight of eleven after Saturday's victory. They just need some body to beat Pittsburgh to reclaim the National League Central lead. The bats and arms have both been contributing in this stretch and that trend was in play Saturday with starter Shelby Miller allowing just one run on three hits through seven innings pitched to get the win. The Cards attack was just as impressive with ten hits and five walks producing home runs and two RBI's each from Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran. Lance Lynn is scheduled to be on the mound to face the Braves on Sunday. Lynn is usually good or bad and was bad all the way the past two times out with a combined ten runs plated (eight earned) on 17 hits and four walks in 11.1 innings.
My thoughts here are neither pitcher has looked good lately so backing one or the other is risky. Having said that I would rather take chance on the plus odds or just not bet the game....
