The Cleveland Indians haven’t had a lot of luck against the Tigers this year and that didn’t change as they lost to them on Saturday. Carlos Santana had two hits, including a home run, Yan Gomes had a home run, and Adrubal Cabrera had two hits, as the Indians scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed seven hits and four runs, while striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-7 on the season. For Sunday’s game, the Indians start Danny Salazar, who has lost his last two decisions. For the season, Salazar has allowed 18 hits and 11 earned runs, while striking out 32 over 27 innings for a 1-2 record and a 3.67 ERA.
Detroit is 28-12 in their last 40 games, 81-39 in their last 120 home games, and 0-4 in Verlander’s last four starts. Cleveland is 7-3 in their last 10 road games against a right-handed starter, 0-5 in their last five games as an underdog, and 0-5 in their last five road games. Cleveland is 6-21 in the last 27 meetings of these two.
I am expecting some offense, as both of these pitchers have been hit recently, so my free pick is on the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that winning pick in the Premium Area.
