The Tampa Bay Rays try to break though at the Oakland Athletics on Sunday after coming up short twice the first two days.
TB outhit Oakland 7-5 Saturday, but didn't score until the ninth inning. By that time, the A's were on their fourth pitcher. Desmond Jennings drove in Wil Myers for the Rays' only run. Oakland scored twice off the bat of Coco Crisp.

Tampa Bay's Alex Cobb (8-3, 2.82 ERA) took the bitter loss. The Rays were 1-of-10 with Runners In Scoring Position, stranding nine men on base, while the Athletics were 1-of-5, leaving five runners aboard.
A.J. Griffin (11-9, 3.94 ERA) tries to regain his confidence on Sunday after eight hard starts at the office. Since July 13 when the Boston Red Sox were befuddled for eight innings in 3-0 loss to Griffin, Oakland's ace has looked very much human. Griffin has given up 27 runs, 24 earned, during 46.2 frames since, resulting in a 3-3 record. The A's did, however, win his two no-decisions.
Okay so Griffin hasn't been that bad since Boston, but he has only gone seven or more innings once. On July 29, the Toronto Blue Jays motored in four runs during seven frames in a 9-4 Griffin O.co Coliseum win. Overall at O.co, Griffin is 5-4, losing his last two decisions to the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, surrendering eight runs, seven earned, during 12.2 innings. TB tapped in three runs during seven frames last July 30 in a 4-3 Oakland home victory. The Rays are 4-of-20 with a Matt Joyce RBI against Griffin.
Tampa Bay returns with Roberto Hernandez (6-13, 4.95 ERA), who hasn't won since July 30. Hernandez's last away victory, however, was May 29 at the Miami Marlins, giving up an unearned run during 8.2 innings. At the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees since, Hernandez has yielded 20 runs during 27.1 frames. The Rays won Hernandez's only road no-decision at the Baltimore Orioles 10-6. Hernandez conceded five runs during two innings.
At Baltimore April 16, however, Hernandez let in five runs, three earned, during 5.1 frames to fall 5-4. Hernandez lost at the Chicago White Sox and Texas, allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, during 12.2 innings. The Athletics, however, were dumped 8-1 by Hernandez April 21. Oakland scored once during six frames versus Hernandez, who the A's are 32-of-113 with 19 RBIs against. TB is in trouble and Sunday's finale may not even be close.
