The New York Mets head south to tangle with the division-leading Atlanta Braves Monday.
The Mets can really be tough to figure out, but one thing I do know is they can't be overlooked. Having said that, New York watched the Nationals use a three run 8th to steal a 6-5 win Sunday. That squandered a decent performance from Jon Niese on Sunday, who gave up two runs over 5.2 frames before three relievers were tagged for four runs. The bats totaled 13 hits and walked once, with Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda driving in two runs each, while Matt den Dekker hit his first home run. New York hands the ball to Daisuke Matsuzaka for the third time in a Mets uniform for the opener at Atlanta. Matsuzaka has been charged with nine runs on 12 hits and five walks over 9.1 innings.

Atlanta has been clicking on all cylinders for quite awhile, with each win bringing them one step closer to officially wrapping up the National League East. The Braves had rattled off six consecutive victories with strong perfomances on the mound leading the way. However, Miami laid a 7-0 whooping on them Sunday, where neither the work on the mound or the plate did a thing. Starter Alex Wood didn't have his best stuff, with all seven runs plated on eight hits and a pair of free passes over 2.1 innings. The bats had some base runners on eight hits and three walks, but were missing the key hit. Left-hander Paul Maholm is scheduled to be on the mound Monday in game one of the series with the visiting Mets. Maholm did not get a decision in a 3-2 victory over Cleveland, in which he allowed one run over six frames.
As I said above, there is no telling what the Mets will do and facing Atlanta is a huge challenge. I don' think Maholm is worth the price, but I'm banking on the Braves offense here...
