The Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners face off on Monday in Kansas City in a battle of two teams playing out the final month of the season but for hopes of better times to come.
The Kansas City Royals are a better team than we have seen them be in recent years but they have still failed to reach their potential. The Royals have won in bunches and lost in bunches and what they have done overall just hasn’t been enough to compete for the AL Central as they sit 9.5 games behind the Tigers. Eric Hosmer is hitting .298 and Billy Butler is at .288 but Salvador Perez could be the key to the future as eh is hitting .279 and has a nice arm behind the plate. For game one of their series against the Mariners the Royals start Danny Duffy who has started just three games this season but he has been super effective with a 2-0 record and a 1.10 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners have played well in spurts but overall it has been just another losing season for the M’s. The Mariners are 3-7 in their last 10 games and 17 games out in the AL West. Kendrys Morales is the Mariners leading hitter at .279 followed by Kyle Seager at .277 with 21 home runs and Raul Ibanez has 25 home runs. For Monday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who has struggled of late but for the season is 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA but he is 0-3 with a 9.64 ERA in his last three starts.
Kansas City is 6-2 in their last eight games, 2-7 in their last nine home games, and 6-0 in Duffy’s last six starts. Seattle is 5-1 in their last six road games, 3-8 in their last 11 games as a favorite, and 1-6 in Hernandez’s last seven starts. Seattle is 4-1 in their last five games in Kansas City.
We have two pitchers who when they are on are just tough to get hits on and while Felix Hernandez has been off of late this one should be low scoring and my free pick is a lean to the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post the winning team in the Premium Area.
