The Oakland A’s and the Teas Rangers meet for game one of their monster series for the leaders in the AL West.
The Oakland A’s are a game back in the AL West and they have regained their solid play after a brief stumble. The A’s are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won their last three in a row. Jed Lowrie is hitting .293 and Josh Donaldson is hitting .292, while Coco Crisp is hitting just .258, but it has been enough to stir the pot. Daniel Strally gets the ball for game one of this series and he has been one of the weaker links on the Oakland pitching staff, with a 7-7 record and a 4.41 ERA and he is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in his last three starts.

The Texas Rangers missed the postseason last year after losing the World Series in each of the previous two years, but they have played themselves in position to get back there once again. The Rangers are 6-4 in their last 10 games and they have a one game lead in the American League West. Adrian Beltre is hitting .326 and A.J. Pierzynski is hitting .283, while Ian Kinsler is hitting .276. Texas sends Derek Holland to the mound for the series opener and he has good numbers, but not the spectacular record to match. Holland is 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA for the season and 0-0 with a 2.37 ERA in his last three starts.
Oakland is 6-1 in their last seven games, 11-5 at home against a left-handed starter, and 2-6 in Strally’s last eight starts. Texas is 13-3 in their last 16 road games, 6-13 against a team with a winning record, and 21-6 in Holland’s last 27 road starts. Texas has won four of the last five meetings of these two.
While Holland is the better pitcher and the Rangers are solid on the road, when the A’s are rolling they are just very tough and they are playing very tough right now.
