Ryan Zimmerman hit a home run and Bryce Harper and Ian Desmond had hits as the Nationals scored two runs on five hits. Stephen Strasburg allowed two hits and a run, while striking out 10 over 6.0 innings but it was Tyler Clippard who took the loss to fall to 6-3. For Tuesday’s game, the Nationals start Gio Gonzalez, who is 1-1 in his last three starts with a 4.67 ERA and a 8-6 record and a 3.56 ERA for the season.

Philadelphia is 5-1 in their last six home games, 14-27 in their last 41 games overall, and 2-6 in their last eight games against a left-handed starter. Washington is 9-4 in their last 13 games, 40-19 as a road favorite, and 21-8 in Gonzalez’s last 29 road starts. Washington is 5-1 in Gonzalez’s last six starts against Philadelphia.

The Phillies have been hot at home, but the Nationals should be able to put this one far enough away to withstand a Phillies rally.
