The Arizona Diamondbacks head to AT&T Park to tangle with the San Francisco Giants.

Arizona has been playing right around .500 baseball over the last few weeks which needless to say has just about eliminated them in the National League West as well as the Wild Card. The work on the mound during this stretch has been pretty good which says the offense hasn't been piling up the runs. The work on the mound was solid Wednesday and the hitting was just enough in a 4-3, ten inning victory over Toronto. Starter Randall Delgado threw seven solid innings with all three runs allowed with Will Harris getting the win. Willie Bloomquist was the offensive star with three hits including a walk off single in the 10th. Trevor Cahill gets the ball for Thursday's start versus the division rival Giants. If Arizona is to finish 2013 with a winning record they need Cahill to continue his decent efforts that have seen him go 1-0 with 3.93 ERA the last three times out.

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Free Pick - 9/5/13

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco came in to 2013 with sky high expectations and they simply didn't live up to them as they are surprisingly last in the National League West. The Giants haven't been consistent offensively and one of the best rotations in the game hasn't performed well. The pitching didn't get the job done Wednesday but benefitted from a scoring spree in a 13-5 rout of San Diego. Tim Lincecum gave up all five runs on seven hits and five free passes through 5.1 frames but was bailed out by a 17 hit attack that saw Brandon Crawford, Hunter Pence and Hector Sanchez go deep while Pablo Sandoval clubbed three bombs and drove in six. Ryan Vogelsong gets the call on the bump hoping to end the season well after struggling most of the year. Vogelsong has thrown 21 innings with 17 hits allowed while posting a 2.14 ERA in three of his latest outings.

This really isn't a game where I feel comfortable from a pitching match up but Vogelsong has been better recently. Good enough to merit a play is the $10,000 question...
