The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals close out their series on Sunday in Miami.
The Miami Marlins were coming off of a win on Friday against the Nats but thy couldn’t make it two in a row as they lost badly Saturday. Christian Yellich had two hits and Justin Ruggiano and Chris Coghlan each had hits as the Marlins scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi allowed nine hits and five runs while striking out two over 3.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-6 on the season. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Jacob Turner who is 0-1 with a 4.41 ERA in his last three starts and 3-5 with a 3.13 ERA for the season.

The Washington Nationals got the bats going on Saturday s they pounded the Marlins in Miami. Ryan Zimmerman hit two home runs, Jayson Werth had three hits, and Denard Span and Adam LaRoche each had two hits as the Nationals scored nine runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Tanner Roark allowed four hits and struck out four over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win. For Saturday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who is 6-9 with a 2.85 ERA for the season and he is 0-0 with a 2.86 ERA in his last three starts.
Miami is 4-2 in their last six games, 2-6 in their last eight home games against a team with a winning record, and 1-6 in Turner’s last seven starts as an underdog. Washington is 8-3 in their last 11 road games, 12-5 in their last 17 overall, and 4-1 in Strasburg’s last five starts. Washington is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.
Washington is simply the better team here and while they aren’t going to the postseason they aren’t got to have any problems here.
