The New York Mets host the Washington Nationals in a National League East clash on Monday.
Washington hasn't given up on the year, with the team looking to finish a rough season with a winning record. The Nationals have been playing well over the last few weeks with wins in seven of eleven, following a 6-4 victory over the Marlins. Stephen Strasburg gave up three early runs, but settled down to allow four runs over six innings, while whiffing seven to pick up the win. The bats saved the day with eleven hits that saw Wilson Ramos and Ryan Zimmerman club homers, while Ian Desmond knocked in two runs. The Washington Nationals give the ball to Gio Gonzalez on Monday versus the Mets. Gozalez has posted back to back victories in which he has allowed one earned run and eight hits over 12.2 frames.

New York has been struggling over the last week or so, which has dropped them to 4th in the National League East behind the Phillies. The Mets had dropped five of six before squeaking past Cleveland 2-1 on Sunday, as a struggling Daisuke Matsazuka held the heavy hitting Indians to a single run over 5.2 frames, with four relievers putting up zeros the rest of the way. The Mets logged eight hits and walked six times, with Eric Young doubling in the game winner in the top of the 9th, while Justin Turner cracked a solo bomb. Carlos Torres makes his third consecutive start when he toes the rubber against the visiting Nationals. Torres gave up four runs in his prior two outings on eleven hits covering 13.2 innings.
As I said Sunday, don't count the Mets out because when you do is when they win. I am going with Gonzalez and the Nats, but he has not been all that consistent in 2013, so I wouldn't lay juice with him on the road...
