The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs face-off on Wednesday afternoon in Cincinnati as they close out their series.
The Cincinnati Reds were handed a beating on Tuesday and it couldn’t have come at much of a worse time, with both of their competitors in the NL Central winning. Joey Votto had two hits and Shin-Soo Choo and Ryan Ludwick had hits as the Reds scored just one run on 10 hits. Stating pitcher Tony CIngrani lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs and taking the loss. For Wednesday’s game, the Reds start Mike Leake, who is 12-6 with a 3.46 ERA for the season and 1-1 in his last three starts with a 6.38 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs are playing for the future and if the future looks like their performance Wednesday, then it looks pretty good. Wellington Castillo hit two home runs, Donnie Murphy hit a home run, and Junior Lake and Starlin Castro had two hits each as the Cubs scored nine runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson allowed nine hits and a run, while striking out four over 7.0 innings to get his eighth win of the year, while also hitting a home run to help his own cause. For Wednesday’s game, the Cubs start Jeff Samardzjia, who is 8-11 with a 4.29 ERA for the season and 1-0 with a 5.66 ERA in his last three starts.
Cincinnati is 4-2 in their last six home games, 5-3 in their last eight games as a home favorite, and 4-1 in Leake’s last five starts. Chicago is 14-27 in their last 41 games, 19-37 against the N.L. Central, and 6-1 in Samardzjia’s last seven road starts.
The Cubs were exceptional on Tuesday, but on Wednesday they return to form as the Reds win easy.
