The Colorado Rockies take to the road to open a weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Rockies season from a competitive standpoint has been over for quite some time, with the only attainable goal being to stay out of the National League West basement. Colorado had a chance to put some distance between themselves and San Francisco Wednesday, but the bullpen couldn't protect a late lead in a 4-3 defeat. In the process, a solid performance from Juan Nicasio went by the wayside, with one run allowed in five innings before Matt Belisle gave two 8th inning runs to take the loss. The bats totaled nine singles, with Nolan Arenado rapping two RBI singles. The Rockies open the series with the Diamondbacks with Tyler Chatwood on the mound. Chatwood comes in off a 2-1 loss (ND) at San Diego, in which he allowed a single run over six frames.

I guess you could say the Diamondbacks season is also over from a competitive standpoint, although this is the only team in the National League West with a winning record besides the Dodgers. Having said that, Arizona is just one game above .500 and need to win going forward or 2013 will see them finish with a losing record. The Snakes snapped a three game slide with a 4-1 decision over the Dodgers on Wednesday behind the pitching of Patrick Corbin. Corbin picked up win number 14 with the lone run plated over 6.1 frames and the bats took care of business with a 15 hit attack. Paul Goldschmidt led the way with a pair of RBI singles. Brandon McCarthy takes the ball in the series opener versus visiting Colorado. McCarthy has won two of three, in which he has allowed one run on eleven hits and a BB in 15 innings of work.
My initial thought was Colorado, but I can't take the sight of their bullpen another day, but then again, McCarthy hasn't been the model of consistency so I'm staying away...
