The Kansas City Royals travel to the Motor City to face the division-leading Detroit Tigers.
I think Kansas City knows the only chance they have of catching Detroit for the American League Central title is if they win out and the Tigers collapse. In essence, KC is playing for a Wild Card berth and they have been a team on a mission, with wins in seven of ten after knocking off Cleveland 6-2 on Wednesday. James Shields bounced back from the worst performance of his career to give up both runs in eight innings, with both allowed in the first. Alex Gordon paced an eleven hit attack with a homer with two runs scored, while four playes drove in runs and four scored. Kansas City is hoping for a big rebound from lefty Danny Duffy when he faces the big bats of Detroit. Duffy has struggled the past two times out, with just three runs allowed, but he has lasted only eight innings.

Detroit hasn't been playing all that well over the past few weeks, with defeats in seven of eleven, but that has been good enough to maintain control of the American League Central, where Cleveland and Kansas City are trying to make a run. The offense has generally struggled in this stretch with a few exceptions, but the team has won back to back contests after squeaking by the White Sox 1-0 on Wednesday. The bats struggled once again, but were saved by a stellar effort on the mound from Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez tossed scoreless ball through 7.1 innings and recorded ten strikeouts to win number 14 while Omar Infante's two out single in the 8th plated the only run. The Tigers turn to Justin Verlander on Friday in the opener against visiting Kansas City. Verlander struggled in a 4-3 loss to the very same Royals, with all four runs given up over seven frames.
I'm just going with the Royals because they play Detroit tough and Verlander has not been his dominant self. Duffy is not ideal so this is a long shot...(I am seeing Bruce Chen popping up as the KC starter so check the lineups)
