The Seattle Mariners pay a visit to Busch Stadium to face the St Louis Cardinals in an interleague tilt.
Seattle has been more competitive in 2013 then their record might indicate but it still hasn't been a pretty sight. A lack of offensive punch has once again been a big problem and one that has hurt this team in prior years. The Mariners have dropped seven of ten following a 6-1 loss to visiting Houston with neither the bats or arms looking good. Starter Brandon Mauer struggled early with five runs given up on seven hits over just three innings of work. That was game over with the offense mustering only five hits with Kendrys Morales cracking his 21st homer. Hisashi Iwakuma takes the hill looking for his 13th win of 2013 against a dangerus Cardinals offense. Iwakuma has been steady in the rotation with 12-6 record and 2.97 ERA over 30 outings.

The Cardinals have been doing their best to shake off Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the National League Central with five consecutive victories before falling to visiting Milwaukee by a 5-3 count. In the wins the Redbirds offense and pitching have been contributing which makes this a very dangerous team. That wasn't the case Thursday with Joe Kelly charged with four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a base on balls over five innings pitched. The bats never got going with their six hits and two walks that saw Matt Adams go deep and Matt Holliday double in a run. Adam Wainwright gets the call to face Seattle in Friday's series opener. Wainwright had dropped consecutive decisions with 15 runs allowed before defeating Pittsburgh 5-0 with two hits allowed in seven frames.
The first thing I see is Iwakuma as a huge dog and I think he might be worth a small play. However, then I ask myself if the Mariners will score. Seems to be too stressful to bet...
