The Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park on Friday night.
When looking back on their season, the Angels will be looking at a very slow start to 2013, which took them out of the postseason conversation. Their stumble out of the gate will be magnified, with the team playing some of their best baseball, which is at the best time of the year to be doing so, except Los Angeles is well out of the race. A 4-3 win at Toronto was number six in eight contests behind solid pitching and a few clutch hits. Garrett Richards allowed three runs on nine hits and a BB in 6.1 frames to get the win. Kole Calhoun went deep and four players drove in runs overall. Jason Vargas draws Friday's series opening start against the rival Astros. Vargas has been a bit up and down over his last ten trips to the mound six quality starts where he has gone 4-3 with three no decisions.

For most teams, a three game winning streak is not front page news, but for a team that has struggled as mightily as Houston has, it's a bigger deal. Hot streaks and the Astros have not been used often in the same sentence in 2013 and their record tells that story. Houston completed a three game sweep at Seattle after Wednesday's 6-1 victory behind Brad Peacock, who gave up the lone run on three hits through six innings to even his record at 5-5. Five different players knocked in runs, with Chris Carter lining a two run single in the 3rd. Dallas Keuchel draws the starting assignment versus the Angels on Friday, looking to end a six game winless skid. Keuchel will throw the occasional gem, but has generally needed some runs to work with, as his 4.99 ERA says.
Houston has given the Angels fits in 2013 so it would be easy just to take them and hope for the best. I really don't care for this at all, but I would go with the over the way both are swinging the bats...
