The New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants face-off on Thursday at Citi Field as they close out their series.

The New York Mets looked like certain losers on Wednesday, but rallied big in the ninth inning to get the win. Josh Satin and Juan Centeno each had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit as the Mets scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Aaron Harang allowed six hits and four runs, while striking out eight over 5.0 innings but it was Victor Black who got the win. For Thursday’s game, the Mets start Jon Niese, who is 7-7 with a 3.88 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA in his last three starts.

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco Giants starting pitching has been their major issue this season, but on Wednesday it was the bullpen that let them down as they took a bad loss. Gregor Blanco hit a home run and Brandon Belt, Angel Pagan, and Brandon Crawford each had hits as the Giants scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Matt Cain allowed six hits and a run, while striking out six over 7.2 innings, but Sergio Romo couldn’t close the deal and he allowed three hits and two runs to take the blown save and the loss. For Thursday’s game, the Giants start Madison Bumgarner, who is 12-9 for the season with a 2.83 ERA and 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last three starts.

New York is 6-11 in their last 17 games, 6-16 in their last 22 games as an underdog, and 3-7 in Niese’s last 10 starts. San Francisco is 4-1 in their last five road games, 4-1 in game three of a series, and 0-6 in Bumgarner’s last six starts against a team with a losing record. San Francisco is 1-6 in the last six meetings of these two.

We have two quality pitchers in this one and I see it as coming in under the total. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that winner in the Premium Area
