The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for the split of their four game set with the San Diego Padres.
The Padres are going nowhere in 2013 but they are making life difficult for anybody on their schedule. San Diego has won eight of eleven, with decent hitting and outstanding work on the mound leading the way. The pitching continued to stand out Wednesday with some late inning scoring leading to a 3-2 decision at PNC Park. Tyson Ross allowed both runs over seven innings with the pen throwing zeros at the home team. The bats were quiet for most of tthe night, with Logan Forsythe and Rene Rivera ripping RBI singles in the 9th for the win. San Diego sends Ian Kennedy to the bump, who looks to secure the series with the Pirates. Kennedy looks to shake off a pair of no decisions where he allowed four runs on ten hits in eleven innings.

The Pirates are back in second in the National League Central simply because they can't beat San Diego. The Pirates have now dropped three in a row to the visiting Padres, who simply have their number. If the Buccos fail in their bid to capture the division they will be looking back at this series. The starting pitching held up their end of the bargain, with Charlie Morton giving up a single run through eight innings pitched before Mark Melancon blew the save and the game with two runs plated in the 9th. The offense consisted of three hits with a two run homer off the bat of Andre McCutchen accounting for the scoring. Geritt Cole hopes to continue his hot pitching when he faces the surging Padres in the final game of the series. Cole has six consecutive quality starts under his belt where he has gone 3-2.
I have a feeling the Pirates finally get one from the Padres but will I lay the juice? No thanks and to take it a step further I would either bet small on San Diego or walk away...
