The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox face-off on Saturday at Comerica Park for game two of their series.
The Detroit Tigers moved a game closer to clinching the American League Central on Saturday as they knocked off the Chicago White Sox. Victor Martinez hit a home run, Torii Hunter had four hits, and Andy Dirks had three hits as the Tigers scored 12 runs on 18 hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed sox hits and three runs, while striking out three over 6.0 innings to earn his 20th win of the season. For Saturday’s game, the Tigers start Rick Porcello, who is 13-8 with a 4.45 ERA for the season and 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in his last three starts.

The Chicago White Sox are winding down a miserable season and they took another loss along the way, as they were pounded in Detroit. Avisall Garcia hit a home run, Alejandro De Aza had two hits, and Paul Konerko had a hit as the White Sox scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod allowed 10 hits and seven runs, lasting just 2.2 innings and taking the loss. For Saturday’s game, the White Sox start Chris Sale, who will be the piece they center around in the rebuilding process. Sale is 11-13 for the season with a 3.08 ERA and 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in his last three starts.
Detroit is 5-1 in their last six games, 4-0 against a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in Porcello’s last five starts. Chicago is 5-17 in their last 22 games, 14-40 in their last 54 road games, and 2-6 in Sale’s last eight starts. Chicago is 5-23 in their last 28 games in Detroit.
As bad as the White Sox have been, Sale is that good and against Porcello, this is Chicago’s best chance for a win this series and I see them getting it.
