The Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers face-off on Saturday in K.C. for game two of their series.
The Kansas City Royals moved to within 2.5 games of the A.L. Wildcard spot as they knocked off the Rangers on Friday. Eric Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain each had two hits and Billy Butler and Salvador Perez each had hits as the Royals scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed five hits and a run over 7.1 innings, but it was Luke Hochevar who got the win and Greg Holland who earned the save. For Saturday’s game, the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie, who is 14-11 with a 4.08 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA in his last three starts.

The Texas Rangers fell out of the Wildcard spot in the A.L and now they will have to work their way back into it or miss the post season. Ian Kinselr, A.J. Pierzynski, and Adrian Beltre each had hits as the Rangers scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Martin Perez allowed seven hits and a run over 5.2 innings, but it was Jason Frasor who took the loss. For Saturday’s game, the Rangers start Matt Garza, who is 3-5 with a 4.94 ERA since joining the Rangers and 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA in his last three starts.
Kansas City is 5-1 in their last six home games, 1303 in their last 16 home games against a team with a winning record, and 18-4 in Guthrie’s last 2 home starts. Texas is 10-4 in their last 14 games as a home favorite, 9-24 against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Garza’s last five starts. Texas is 4-2 in the last six meetings of these two.
I look for Kansas City to keep it going and to knock the Rangers further back in the mix.
