The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners meet on Saturday after playing extra innings on Friday.
The Los Angeles Angels are closing out one of the most disappointing seasons in all of baseball but they managed to get a win on Friday. Andrew Romine had three hits and Kole Calhoun and Howie Kendrick each had two hits as the Angels scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker allowed two hits and struck out five over 5.0 scoreless innings but is was Cory Rasmus who got the win. For Saturday’s game the Angels start Jerome Williams who is 8-10 with a 4.65 ERA and he is 3-0 with a 4.43 ERA in his last three starts.

The Seattle Mariners are in another rebuilding process and while the future looks clearer, the present was met with another loss on Friday. Nick Franklin had three hits and Dustin Ackley and Michael Saunders each had two hits as the Mariners scored two hits on seven runs. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez allowed six hits and two runs over 6.0 innings but Chance Ruffin blew the save and Bobby LaFromboise took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Joe Saunders who is 11-15 with a 5.16 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 8.10 ERA in his last three starts.
Los Angeles is 20-7 in their last 27 games, 3-7 in their last 10 games as a home favorite, and 6-13 in Williams last 19 starts as a favorite. Seattle is 4-9 in game two of a series, 8-20 in their last 28 games, and 1-4 in Saunders’ last five starts. Seattle is 0-4 in the last four meetings of these two.
While these two pitchers were two not to be counted on most of the season Williams has sort of put it together of late and I look for the Angels to get the win here.
