The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox face off on Sunday as they close out their series in Detroit.
The Detroit Tigers rallied in the ninth inning on Saturday and got the game to extra innings where they won it. Andy Dirks hit a home run, Miguel Cabrera had three hits, and Victor Martinez and Omar infant each had two hits as the Tigers scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed six hits and two runs while striking out nine over 6.2 innings, but it was Al Alburquerque who got the win. For Sunday’s game, the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who is 14-7 with a 2.51 ERA for the season and 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA in his last three starts.

The Chicago White Sox appeared to have Saturday’s game in hand, but like many this season, they let it get away from them and it eventually turned into a loss. Paul Konerko, Aviall Garcia, Jeff Keppinger, and Gordon Beckham each had two hits as the White Sox scored six runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Chris Sale allowed four hits and struck out seven over 7.2 scoreless innings, but Jacob Petricka was the one who got the decision, a loss. For Sunday’s game, the White Sox start Erik Johnson, who is 1-2 with a 2.87 ERA in his three Major League starts.
Detroit is 5-2 in their last seven games against a right-handed starter, 37-16 as a favorite, and 10-1 in Sanchez’s last 11 starts. Chicago is 14-41 in their last 55 road games, 2-7 in their last nine games against a right-handed starter, and 4-22 in their last 26 games.
The Tigers have done most of their damage this season against their own division, the A.L. Central, and they should do the same here.
