The Seattle Mariners hope to avoid the sweep on Sunday when the Mariners face off against the Angels at Angel Stadium.
The Los Angeles Angels will have their brooms out on Sunday when the Angels face off against the M’s. The Angels defeated the Mariners on Saturday 6-5. Los Angeles got a solid start from Williams, who went five and one thirds innings, giving up just one run off of five hits. The Bullpen struggled for the Angels, giving up four runs combined. Los Angeles will be hoping for a strong start from C.J. Wilson on Sunday to give their ‘pen a break. Wilson has pitched well this season, going 17-6 on the year with an ERA of 3.36 and a WHIP of 1.35. In Wilson’s last three starts, the Angels starter has an ERA of 3.48 and a WHIP of 1.20.

The Seattle Mariners don’t have anything to play for at this point, but still the M’s don’t want to get swept by the Angels here on Sunday. The Mariners had Saunders on the hill Saturday against the Angels, and Saunders ended up going seven full innings, giving up six runs off of six hits. The Mariners will have “King” Felix Hernandez on the hill Sunday against the Angels. Hernandez is 12-9 on the year with an ERA of 3.01 and a WHIP of 1.13. Those are all respectable numbers, especially the low WHIP. Hernandez has struggled lately, however, going 0-3 in his last three starts, having an ERA of 7.47 and a WHIP of 1.468 in that span. Hernandez is also averaging just 5.3 innings per outing in his last three starts.
The Mariners are just 5-14 in the month of September, while the Angels on the other hand are an impressive 13-6 this month. The Angels are just above the .500 mark this season against right-handed starters, while the M’s are just 20-29 against lefties.
Having King Felix on the mound automatically drives the price, but digging deeper we can really see that the M’s ace has struggled lately. I think we are getting some good value here with Wilson on the mound, even though he hasn’t been lights out lately either. Personally, I am passing on this one with better games on the board for Sunday, but for my free pick, I’ll lay the small number here with the Angels.
