The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off in San Diego on Wednesday Night in game three of their series.
The San Diego Padres fought hard on Tuesday, like they have most of the season, but in the end they didn’t have enough and lost to Arizona in extra innings. Kyle Blanks, Chris Denorfia, and Chase Headley all had hits but the Padres scored just one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed three hits and a run while striking out six over 8.0 innings but it was Luke Gregorson who took the loss in the 12th innings. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who is 6-10 with a 5.06 ERA for the season and 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA in his last three starts.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are pressing hard to finish with a winning record and they took a step in that direction winning on Tuesday. Paul Goldschmidt hit a home run, Martin Prado had two hits, and Gerrardo Parra had a hit as the D-Backs scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Wade Miley allowed four hits and struck out seven over 6.0 scoreless innings but David Hernandez blew the save and Josh Collmenter eventually got the win and brad Ziegler earned the save. For Wednesday’s rematch the Diamondbacks start Randall Delgado who is 5-6 with a 3.96 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 5.93 ERA in his last three starts.
San Diego is 4-1 in their last five games following a loss, 6-2 in their last eight games as a favorite, and 4-1 in Kennedy’s last five starts. Arizona is 5-2 in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, 2-5 in their last seven games as a road underdog, and 9-4 in Delgado’s last 13 starts. Arizona is 1-5 in their last six games in San Diego.
Looking at the way these two starting pitchers come in we can expect to see plenty of hits and runs and the best play here is simply the over.
