The Texas Rangers host the rival Los Angeles Angels in an AL West tilt on Thursday.
The Angels are playing well albeit too little, too late. Los Angeles is playing the way most people thought they would see over 162 games but 3rd in the American League West is going to b their final destination. The Angels do have a shot at finishing with a winning record and took another step towards that goal with a 3-1 win over visiting Oakland behind a strong performance on the mound by Jered Weaver. Weaver allowed the lone run on on five hits over seven frames to improve to 11-8. Josh Hamilton paced an eight hit attack with a pair of RBI's with Erick Aybar singling in another. The Angels are scheduled to send Jerome Williams to the bump to face the Rangers Thursday. Williams has been very good in consecutive victories in which he gave up a run in each over 12.2 innings.

Texas has been slowly fading over the past month which has dropped them from the top spot in the American League West behind Oakland. The Rangers are fighting for the Wild Card and need a great effort going forward like they received in a three game sweep of the visiting Astros. Solid hitting and pitching led the way to a 7-3 defeat of the Stros Wednesday with starter Martin Perez giving up all three runs over seven frames to pick up win number ten. Ian Kinsler homered and drove in two while Leonys Martin knocked in three more. Left hander Matt Garza toes the rubber against the Angels in Thursday night action. Garza snapped a three game slide in a 3-1 victory at Kansas City where he allowed the lone run over eight frames.
I have faded Williams many time but to his credit he has been throwing the well of late so I'm going to go against the grain here and back him with a hot team...
