The Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians face off on Friday in game two of their season ending series.
The Minnesota Twins have a chance to play spoiler but they were unable to play out that role on Thursday as they lost to the Indians. Josmil Pinto hit a home run, Rya Doumit had three hits, and Trevor Plouffe and Alex Pressley each had hits as Twins scored five runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Albers allowed seven hits and four runs over 5.2 innings to take the loss. For Friday’s game the Twins start Pablo Hernandez who is 3-2 with a 6.05 ERA for the season and he is 0-1 with a 9.26 ERA in his last three starts.

The Cleveland Indians are in control of their own destiny as they are maintaining their one game lead over the Rangers in the Wildcard race. On Thursday Van Gomes hit a home run, Michael Brantley had three hits, and Ryan Raburn had two hits as the Indians scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Zach McAllister allowed six hits over 4.1 scoreless innings, as it was Bryan Shaw who got the win and Joe Smith who earned the save. For Friday’s game the Indians start Corey Kluber who is 10-5 with a 3.61 ERA for the season and 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA in his last three starts.
Minnesota is 11-28 in their last 39 home games, 5-17 in their last 22 games overall, and 4-1 in Hernandez’s last five starts. Cleveland is 12-1 on the road against a team with a losing record, 17-5 in their last 22 games, and 4-0 in Kluber’s last four starts. Cleveland is 5-9 in their last 14 games in Minnesota.
It took the Indians almost the entire season to get into a playoff spot and don’t look for it to slip away from them here.
