The Chicago Cubs head to Busch Stadium to open up the final series of the season.
The Cubs have been limping to the finish line as losers in seven of ten but one of those wins came on Wednesday in a 4-2 victory over the Pirates which might have ended the Buccos National League Central title hopes. The offense has really struggled in this stretch but did enough damage Wednesday to support a great effort on the mound from Jake Arrieta wo won his 4th with a single run plated on four hits over six frames. The offense totaled nine hits and walked twice with Darnell McDonald clubbing a three run bomb in the 6th to break a 1-1 tie. Left hander Travis Wood toes the rubber in game one of the series at St Louis on Friday. Wood has been the Cubs best hurler and is riding a string of three straight quality starts where he has allowed three runs over 20 innings.

The Cardinals have really turned on the jets the past few weeks in their pursuit of yet another National League Central crown. The Redbirds knocked off Washington by a 4-1 count Wednesday for win number seven in ten with both their pitching and hitting contributing in this stretch. That trend continued Wednesday with Shelby Miller holding the Nationals to just a lone run on four hits and a trio of free passes over six innings. Yadier Molina paced the Cards six hit attack with a two run single in the 4th before Matt Adams added a 6th inning solo jack. Lance Lynn takes the mound for the final start of the regular season against rival Chicago on Friday. Lynn has had his share of problems in 2013 but has been solid the last three times out with three runs plated in 18.2 frames.
My first reaction was take Wood but will the Cubs score and then I see Lynn has not been great until lately but can capture the division crown with a win. That's when I realize I don't have a firm grasp of this game and wouldn't lay juice with Lynn so here you go...
