The St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs meet for game two of their series and the second to last game of their regular seasons.
The St. Louis Cardinals aren’t content to coast onto the post season as they clobbered the Cubs on Friday in St. Louis. Matt Holliday and David Freese each hit home runs and Yadier Molina and Jon Jay each and two hits as the Cardinals scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed four hits and struck out nine over 6.0 innings to get the win. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who is 18-9 with a 3.01 ERA and he is 2-0 with a 2.78 ERA in his last three starts.

The Chicago Cubs are limping into the season’s final days, as they were shutout on Friday in St. Louis. Starlin Castro had three hits and Donnie Murphy and Anthony Rizzo as the Cubs scored zero runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Travis Wood allowed four runs and three hits as he lasted just one inning and took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Cubs start Edwin Jackson who is 8-17 with a 4.74 ERA and 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in his last three starts.
St. Louis is 5-0 in their last five games, 6-2 against a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in Wainwright’s last six home starts. Chicago is 18-40 in their last 58 games, 22-48 against the NL Central, and 1-8 in Jackson’s last nine starts. Chicago is 3-10 in their last 13 games in St. Louis.
The Cards are simply red hot while the Cubs have nothing left in the tank and I look for St. Louis to roll here.
