The Baltimore Orioles host the Boston Red Sox looking to enter the off season with a win.
Despite having nothing to play for except for the desire to win, Boston has been tough to handle lately with the offense continuing to rack up runs. The bats were strong once again Saturday but the pitching was not in a 6-5 defeat at Camden Yards. Jon Lester struggled through five innings with four runs given up before Junichi Tazawa gave up two in the 8th to lose it. The bats totaled 14 hits with David Ross winging the big bat with a pair of RBI's. Boston hands the ball to John Lackey for Sunday's start at Camden Yards. Lackey hopes to rebound from an 8-3 defeat at Colorado where he was charged with four runs over six innings.

Baltimore looked like a second straight postseason appearance was in the bag early on with their big offense racking up the runs but that offense faded away down the stretch and was inconsistent at best. Having said that, the offense came to life Saturday to bail out Wei-Yin Chen who allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk through five innings pitched. The Orioles rapped out 12 hits and walked twice with Brian Roberts leaving the yard while Steve Pearce recorded two hits and knocked in three. Baltimore is scheduled to send Chris Tillman to the bump Sunday against the visiting White Sox. Tillman did not get a decision in a 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays with a single run given up in seven frames.
Obviously the game has little meaning although I'm sure both teams want to win. I don't see any advantage in backing either team except the O's want to send their fans home happy if you call that a reason...
