The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Sunday in their final game of the 2013 MLB Baseball season.

The formula for the Texas Rangers is simple, win and their season continues, lose and they are going to need some help. The Rangers win on Saturday combined with the Rays’ loss puts them tied for the final Wildcard spot in the American League. On Saturday Craig Gentry had two hits and A.J. Pierzynski and Alex Rios had hits and drove in runs as the Rangers scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Derek Holland allowed eight hits and four runs over 4.2 innings as Joakim Soria got the win and Joe Nathan earned the save. For Sunday’s monster game the Rangers start Yu Darvish who is 13-9 with a 2.82 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA in his last three starts.

The Los Angeles Angels would love to play spoiler and keep the Rangers from the post season but they haven’t gotten it done in that role this series. Erick Aybar had three hits and Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick each had hits as the Angels scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Garrettt Richards wasn’t good enough as he allowed six hits and six runs over 4.1 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Angels start Jason Vargas who is 9-7 with a 4.01 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA in his last three starts.

Texas is 7-0 in their last seven games, 13-5 in their last 18 games against a left-handed starter, and 2-6 in Darvish’s last eight starts. Los Angeles is 2-6 in their last eight against the AL West, 13-4 against a right-handed starter, and 6-1 in Vargas’ last seven starts after their opponent scores five or more runs the previous day. Los Angeles is 0-8 in their last eight games in Texas.

Texas is playing up to their ability and when they are doing that they are tough for anyone to beat let alone Vargas.

Texas Rangers -160
