The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Monday in Tampa Bay in game three of their ALDS series.
The Boston Red Sox have an opportunity to close out the Rays on Monday after sweeping the first to games of the ALDS in Boston. On Saturday David Ortiz hit two home runs, Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, and Dustin Pedroia drove in three runs as the Red Sox scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out six over 5.1 innings to get the win and Koji Uehara earned the save. For Monday’s game Boston starts Clay Buchholz who is 12-1 with a 1.74 ERA for the season and 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA in his last three starts.

The Tampa Bay Rays earned their way into this series but barring a win on Monday and they will be making an early exit. On Saturday James Loney, Yunel Esccobar,, and Desmond Jennings each had two hits as the Rays scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher David Price allowed nine hits and seven runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss. For Monday’s game the Rays start Alex Cobb who is 12-3 with a 2.64 ERA for the season and 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA in his last three starts.
Boston is 24-10 in their last 34 games, 1-4 in their last five road playoff games, and 36-15 in Buchholz’s last 51 road starts. Tampa Bay is 4-0 in their last four home games, 12-4 in their last 16 games as an underdog, and 4-0 in Cobb’s last four starts. Boston is 6-2 in their last eight games in Tampa Bay.
