The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Monday afternoon at PNC Park for game 4 of their NLDS.
The St. Louis Cardinals have their backs to the wall after losing the last two games of this series. On Sunday Carlos Beltran hit a home run, Pete Kozma had two hits, and Yadier Molina added a hit but the Cardinals scored just three runs on seven hits. Joe Kelly allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings but it was Carlos E. Martinez who took the loss allowing a hit and two runs while retiring just one batter. The Cardinals look to extend the series as they start Michael Wacha who is 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 2.95 ERA in his last three starts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have defied the odds and the naysayers all season and a win on Monday and they will have knocked off the top seed in the National League. On Sunday they grabbed an early lead, let it get away, and then won decisively. Andrew McCutchen and Marlon Byrd had two hits each and Justin Morneau and Pedro Alvarez each had its as the Pirates scored five runs on eight hits. Francisco Liriano allowed three hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 inning but Mark Melancon blew the save and then got the win as Jason Grilli earned the save. For Monday’s game the Pirates go with Charlie Morton who is 7-4 with a 3.26 ERA for the season and 0-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts.
St. Louis is 7-2 in their last nine games, 26-9 in their last 35 games as a favorite, and 0-4 in their last four playoff road games. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in their last seven games, 7-1 as an underdog, 4-1 following a win, and 1-6 in Morton’s last seven starts as a home underdog. St. Louis is 2-8 in their last 10 games in Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh is 0-7 in Morton’s last seven starts against the Cards.
The total looks to be too low here as both sides have been free swinging and at 7.5 the over looks to be no problem and it is my free pick. I have posted my pick on who will win in the Premium Area.
