The Los Angeles Dodgers visit Busch Stadium to face the St Louis Cardinals in game one of the NLCS.
Los Angeles was unchallenged over the last six weeks or so of the regular season although they didn't play that well at times over the final weeks. That left many to believe they could be a bit vulnerable in their NLDS versus the Braves who were never challenged in winning the East. After winning the series 3-1 we can look back and say the final weeks of the season with their up and down play had zero effect on this team. The Dodgers proved to have plenty of pitching to control a dangerous Atlanta lineup and enough offense to get the job done against a very solid Braves rotation. The bats were more clutch then anything and look no further then the gave four clincher when Juan Uribe smacked a two run 8th inning homer to erase a 3-2 deficit. The Dodgers hand the ball to Zack Greinke in the series opener on Friday. Greinke made one start in the NLDS and dropped a 4-3 decision to Atlanta with two runs allowed on two hits over six frames.

The Cardinals 6-1 victory in game five not only clinched the ALDS over the Pirates but in a way told us why this team won the National League Central. The Redbirds have the best combinaton of offense and pitching in the division which is impressive with both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh hounding them the entire 2013 campaign. If the Cardinals need hitting they get it and if pitching is required that's not a problem either. The pressure of having two teams chasing them in the division race seemed to have zero effect on this team and was proven in game four with in a 2-1 victory and once again in game five in a 6-1 win. Once again the Redbirds are competing for the NLCS because some how the front office finds players to fit any need that might arise even though Adam Wainwright almost won two games by his lonesome with a complete game to clinch the NLDS on Wednesday. Joe Kelly opens the NLCS on the mound looking for his first postseason victory. Kelly did not receive a decision in a 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh where he allowed three runs (two earned) over 5.1 innings.
First glance and I thought Greinke at a cheap price wasn't bad but I think runs will be scarce and I'll sleep on this one...
