The Houston Astros and the New York Yankees face off on Tuesday as they are the last two teams to get their 2014 MLB Baseball seasons underway.
The Houston Astros have been the worst team in baseball in recent year and they hope this year is when they start to turn things around. The Astros had far and away the worst record in baseball last season finishing 45 games back in the AL West and going 24-57 at home. The Astros have gone with the youth movement and L.J. Hoes led Houston last year in batting at .287. Robbie Grossman hit .360 during the Spring, Dexter Fowler was brought in as table setter and to play center, and Jason Castro will be behind the plate. Scott Feldman gets the Opening Day start and Jesse Crain takes over the closer role.

The New York Yankees didn’t go to the post season last year as we continue to watch the stars of the last decade or so retire and take their place in Yankee history. This year it is Derek Jeter’s turn and it will certainly be filled with emotion as there have been few baseball players who have had more team success than Jeter in their careers. Jacoby Ellsbury joins the Yankees this year and plays center, Mark Teixeira is back at first base, Carlos Beltran comes back to New York but with another team in right, and Brian McCann assumes the catching duties. C.C. Sabathia gets the Opening Day start while David Robertson tries to at least start to replace a legend and first ballot Hall of Famer in Mariano Soto.
Houston is 18-45 in their last 63 home games, 21-54 as a home underdog, and 0-4 in game one of a series. New York is 4-1 in their last five road games, 2-5 in game one of a series, and 1-6 in Sabathia’s last seven road starts. New York has won 12 of the last 13 meetings of these two.
While it is tough to go against the Yankees here, the odds prevent this from being a Premium Pick, so I will take the Yankees in what I don’t feel is a strong play.
