The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers face of on Tuesday in San Diego for game two of their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres aren’t expected to do much this season but they got the year started on the right foot knocking off the heavily favored Dodgers. Chris Denorfia had two hits and drove in two runs, Seth Smith hit a pinch-hit home run, and Will Venable added a hit as the Padres scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Andew Cashner allowed four hits and a run while striking out five over 6.0 innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Dale Thayer got the win and Huston Street earned the save. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who came over from the Diamondbacks mid-season last year after a miserable start. Last year with the Padres he went 4-2 with a 4.24 ERA allowing 53 hits and striking out 55 over 57.1 innings of work.

The Los Angeles Dodgers started their season with two wins in Australia but to open the season in the US they didn’t fare as well losing to the Padres. A.J. Ellis had two hits, Carl Crawford had a hit and a RBI, and Juan Uribe had a hit as the Dodgers scored a run on four hits. Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed just three hits and struck out seven over 7.0 innings but it was Brian Wilson who got the blown save and took the loss failing to retire a batter allowing three runs. For Tuesday’s game Zack Greinle makes his first start of the year in his second season on the Dodgers. Last season Greinke was 15-4 with a 2.63 ERA allowing 152 hits and striking out 148 over 177.2 innings.
San Diego is 4-1 in their last five home games, 13-6 against a right-handed starter, and 4-1 in Kennedy’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 10-3 in their last 13 games following an off day, 2-5 in their last seven road games, and 9-3 in Greinke’s last 12 road starts. LA has won seven of the last nine meetings of these two.
The total is set at 6.5 and I like for this one to stay under that number and it is a strong play for a free pick. I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
