The Cincinnati Reds and St Louis Cardinals face off in game number two at Great American Ball Park.
St Louis earned a 1-0 decision over Cincinnati to kick off the season in the right direction versus their biggest rivals. Knowing runs would be at a premium Adam Wainwright knew he had to be at the top of his game with no room for error and he was. Wainwright tossed a three hit shutout over seven frames with four walks and nine strikeouts with four relievers finishing the job. The Cardinals recorded five hits and walked twice with Yadier Molina's 7th inning homer accounting for all the scoring. Michael Wacha draws the starting assignment versus the Reds who he faced once last year and tossed a three hit shutout over six innings.

Losing to your biggest rival is never a good thing but their were some positives coming out of Monday's 1-0 home defeat. Two words actually...Johnny Cueto. The ace of the Cincinnati rotation suffered a few injuries a year ago and when he misses starts the team is missing wins. Cueto was in mid season form with Yadier Molina's long ball ruining an otherwise great outing as he held a dangerous St Louis attack to three hits and a walk through seven frames while whiffing eight. The offense never got going with just three hits and five BB with Todd Frazier posting a pair of hits with a walk. Tony Cingrani gets the ball Wednesday versus St Louis after beating them twice in 2013 with five runs allowed on eight hits in 10.1 frames.
This has all the ingredients for a great game but no real edge one way another. I'll probably watch this as opposed to betting...
