San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – 8/3/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-03 21:10:00 EDT

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres meet Monday in MLB action from Petco Park.

The Dodgers are coming out of a weekend set versus the Diamondbacks. Los Angeles got wins on Thursday and Saturday in that set, but lost the Friday game. On Sunday, the Dodgers managed a 3-0 shutout victory to win the series. As for the Padres, they played the Rockies over the weekend, splitting the Friday (win) and Saturday (loss) games. In the Sunday finale, San Diego fell 9-6. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.

The Dodgers got two runs in the first inning on Sunday in the finale versus the Diamondbacks, and that’s all they ended up needing. Los Angeles out-hit Arizona 9-4 in that one. Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger each hit home runs as well. Pitching-wise, Clayton Kershaw put up 5.2 innings with three hits, no earned and six Ks.

For Monday’s start, Los Angeles will be sending out Walker Buehler in the role. Last season, Buehler posted a 14-4 record with a 3.26 ERA and 215 strikeouts in 182.1 innings of work. Buehler lasted 3.2 innings in his last start Tuesday and retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced.

Over on the Padres’ side, they were down 9-1 heading into the eighth inning on Sunday, but put up a few cosmetic runs to help out on the scoreboard in the later frames. Starter Zach Davies had a rough night, going 5.0 innings with four hits, three earned, two homers and two strikeouts.

San Diego will be going with Chris Paddack as the starter on Monday. Last year, Paddack was 9-7 with a 3.33 ERA and 153 strikeouts over 140.2 innings of work. In two starts this season, Paddack is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 11.0 innings pitched. He had a 5.65 ERA in three games versus the Dodgers last year.

The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five games overall and 16-5 in their last 21 road games. Los Angeles is also 16-5 in their last 21 road games and 22-8 in their last 30 games as a road favorite.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 16-35 in their last 51 games as an underdog and 8-18 in their last 26 overall. San Diego is 8-20 in their last 28 home games versus a right-handed starter and 3-8 in their last 11 during game one of a series.

Pick: I’m going with the Padres here. Though I think it’ll be a close game, Paddack has been pretty darn solid so far this year and he should be up to the challenge of facing this difficult Dodgers lineup. Buehler will make things difficult on the other side for the Padres offense, but if San Diego can wear him down throughout the course of the game there should be some opportunities to score. This is probably a good spot for the under as well.
