The Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins will wrap up a four-game series on Thursday. The Rockies won their first game on Wednesday, defeating the Marlins 6-5.
The Colorado Rockies finally get their offense going in game 3, knocking out 12 hits and scoring three runs in the first inning. The Rockies bullpen also lasted four innings and gave up only one run. Juan Nicasio will start game 4 for the Rockies, and he finished last season with a 9-9 record and a 5.14 ERA. Last season, Nicasio was 5-5 on the road with a 4.62 ERA. While those numbers may not be that impressive, Nicasio allowed only two hits in seven innings in his start against the Marlins last season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Marlins starting pitching cracked for the first time all season, as Henderson Alvarez allowed seven hits and six runs in just three innings of work. While the Marlins did strike out 11 times, Giancarlo Stanton did hit his first homerun of the season. Jacob Turner will take the mound for the Marlins in Game 4. Turner started 20 games last season for the Marlins and finished 3-8 with a 3.74 ERA. Turner’s numbers are just as ugly as Nicasio’s, but it’s important to note that all of his wins last season took place at Marlins Park.
The Rockies are 15-38 in their last 53 road games and 8-22 in their last 30 vs. National League East. The Marlins are 6-1 in their last 7 home games and 0-5 in Turners last 5 home starts. The Rockies are 5-9 in the last 14 meetings in Miami.
With a quick turnaround consdiering game 3 was played at night, I like the under in this matchup. The under is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams. Turner is a solid pitcher at home and neither offense has shown much scoring ability so far in this series.
Expect a tight game on Thursday with the total going under the projected number.
