The Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox face off on Friday for the Royals’ home opener for 2014.
The Kansas City Royals caught a tough draw to open the season facing the Tigers and losing the first two games before being rained out for their third game. Salvador Perez had five hits in his first seven at bats, Eric Hosmer is hitting .286, and Lorenzo Cain and Omar Infante are hitting .250. The Royals starting pitchers have a combined 2.70 ERA and he bullpen has an ERA of 3.86 for a team ERA of 3.00. For Friday’s game Kansas City starts Jeremy Guthrie who was 15-12 with a 4.04 ERA last season as he allowed 236 hits and 95 earned runs while striking out 111 over 211.2 innings.

The Chicago White Sox won their first two games of the season before falling to the Twins in a back and forth game on Thursday. The White Sox have been hitting with Tyler Flowers batting .500, Alexei Ramirez is hitting .455, Jose Abreu is hitting .417, and Alejando De Aza is hitting .364. The White Sox starting pitchers have a 2.84 ERA while the bullpen has been hit to the tune of a 4.91 ERA for a staff ERA of 3.60. For Friday’s game the White Sox start Erik Johnson who was 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA while allowing 32 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 18 over 27.2 innings of work.
Kansas City is 6-2 in their last eight home games, 4-1 in their last five game one of a series, 7-3 as a home favorite, and 18-5 in Guthrie’s last 23 home starts. Chicago is 17-36 in game one of a series, 6-14 against the AL Central, and 15-43 in their last 58 road games. Chicago is 6-1 in their last seven games in Kansas City.
The White Sox had it going against the Royals last year but they were bad on the road and pen looks soft early so it’s just a mild lean to the Royals as Johnson is the better option in the mound but I don’t see him going deep enough into the game to get the win.
