The Los Angles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants face off on Friday at Dodger Stadium in game one of their series.
The Los Angles Dodgers were one of the first two teams to open their 2014 MLB season but they are playing their first home game of the season on Friday. The Dodgers are off to a 4-1 start and they lead the National League West by a half of a game. Dee Gordon is leading the Dodgers in hitting at .385, Juan Uribe is hitting .381, and Yasiel Puig is hitting .250 with a home run. The Los Angeles starting pitchers have a lights out ERA of 0.91 while the bullpen is at 4.40 for a 2.05 team ERA. For Friday’s game the Dodgers start Hyun-Jin Ryu who is 1-0 for the season allowing five hits and striking 12 over 12 scoreless innings.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco Giants opened their season in Arizona winning three of four games and finding themselves just a half game behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Angel Pagan is averaging .421 Buster Posey is averaging .417, and Brandon Belt is averaging .333 including three home runs. The Giants starting pitchers have a 1.08 ERA while the bullpen has an ERA of 5.79 for a team ERA of 2.77. For game one against their rivals in LA San Francisco starts Ryan Vogelsong who was 4-6 last season with a 5.73 ERA allowing 124 hits and 66 earned runs while striking out 67 over 103.2 innings of work.
Los Angeles is 20-6 at home against a right-handed starter, 11-3 following an off day, 48-23 in their last 71 games as a favorite, and 14-6 in Ryu’s last 20 starts. San Francisco is 7-2 in their last nine games, 12-25 in game one of a series, and 2-5 in Vogelsong’s last seven road starts. San Francisco is 5-1 in the lst six meetings of these two.
I don’t love the price here but Ryu at home is one tough customer and I will lay the odds he and the Dodgers get it done here.
