The New York Yankees head north of the border to face the Toronto Blue Jays Friday.
The Yankees were hoping for a fast start to 2014 as they opened the year at Houston but instead they will have to settle for a 1-2 start after knocking off the Astros 4-2 Thusday to get win number one. Ivan Nova got the victory with both runs given up on six hits and five walks in 5.2 frames as the Astros had plenty of chances. The Bronx Bombers received RBI's from Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Carlos Beltran and Yangervis Solarte. The Yankees send Masahiro Tanaka to the bump in the series opener with Toronto at the Rogers Centre. Tanaka was signed to a seven year contract and we'll see just how good his highly praised splitter is in his debut.

Toronto had an opportunity to head home with a win at Tampa Bay in their back pocket on Thursday but neither the arms or bats cooperated in a 7-2 defeat. Brandon Morrow struggled early with four runs scored on seven hits and a base on balls through five innings of work. He left the game trailing 4-2 before Esmil Rogers let it get out of reach when Evan Longoria took him deep for three runs plated in the 7th. The offense didn't have enough to come back on with a five hit, four walk attack with Dioner Navarro and Brett Lawrie driving in runs. Dustin McGowan makes his first start since 2011 after being hurt in 2012 and missing the entire year. McGowan was in the bullpen a year ago but the Jays are seeing if he can give the rotation some quality innings.
There is plenty of anticipation when Tanaka makes his debut and plenty of unknowns when McGowan makes a return to the rotation. Don't really have a read here so I'll go with the Yanks and their expensive starter...
